Alicia,

Oh, I can sympathize! I vividly remember each child as a newborn; one of us was out in the living room around the clock, with the baby rotated among various bouncy seats/car seats, or parents' (or grandparents') arms.

Your baby is at a very tender age and you don't need to worry about sleep "habits" at this age; there's really nothing you can do other than comfort and feed as they need it (and as her doctor recommends). YOU need the help and support -- as time goes by you will surely become more and more tired, so make sure you have backup help that will allow you to sleep, as I suggested in the article.

And don't worry about the bassinet -- I bought 4, thinking ONE of them would like the bassinet, but none of them did (you'd think I'd learn....) I think the curvy, cozy shape of the bouncy and carseat is much more natural for babies anyway, so it makes sense to me (as long as the pedi says it's ok...most of them do).

Good luck and congrats!!! It's really just a matter of getting through this time as well as you can, and remember -- ENJOY this time, as much as possible. It's fleeting! :))

I agree with the pattern but what do you suggest for a colic baby. How would new parents work with that schedule? My 18 day old daughter has decided that she can only sleep in her bouncy seat or her car seat. Does not want her bassinet. What do you suggest on that issue? Thanks for the time.

I totally agree, Brian! That's one of the reasons I started this site -- even as a trained psychologist, I never got much of this information from school -- and it makes loads of difference!

It is amazing what a little piece of knowledge can do for a new parent's sanity. It is also amazing that a new family can leave the hospital without anyone telling them this.
