[...] I’ve written other posts about getting through the sleep deprivation aspect of this, but let me also mention our friend caffeine here. Don’t overdo it. At my peak, I have a mug of java in the morning, some iced tea at lunch, and another cup of coffee around 2. That’s 3 servings a day. Any more and I get frazzled and nutty — and no more awake than if I had stayed with the 3 servings. Studies say that some coffee is fine for most of us, but too much will definitely make you feel worse. [...]

There actually are neurological changes that seem to correspond to the regressions in sleep we so often see in infancy. In other words, there's a TON going on inside baby's brain that causes her to wake more frequently -- to try out new skills, or for reassurance. It's unsettling to all of a sudden have all these new capacities! Just imagine if all of a sudden you became aware that you could, say, FLY! That would sure decrease the desire to sleep for a few days. ;)

This article just made me feel so much better. It is so true about how it seems even more difficult once you get used to having the baby sleep through the night. My baby has started waking up again, and everytime he does, I always wonder WHY! After reading the article, I think I'll just try to go with the flow and just accept that being tired is part of being a parent.

This was the best article EVER regarding to the challenges of parenting a new born. At 7 months, my sweetheart has regressed to waking 4-6 times a night. Urrgghh! I greatly appreciated your article. This concerned, happiest, and loving father can now live even happier and better. You just made me tear. You ROCK... Baby Shrink.
