I totally agree from experience with my own babies that if they’re not developmentally ready to do anything (walk, talk, read, swim, cycle) that your efforts will be in vain! I guess the important thing is knowing what to do when they ARE ready, as you say, so that you can take advantage of the window of opportunity, and let them progress.
